Training is heating up in Team Pacquiao’s camp as the country’s prized fighter enters the final four weeks of his preparations against British boxing star Ricky Hatton.
“Dumating na kami sa yugto ng training kung saan walong rounds na ang sparring namin,” Manny Pacquiao said in his PhilBoxing.com column “Kumbinasyon.”
Pacquiao said his coaching staff is very pleased with his performance in his sparring sessions.
As testament of his superb conditioning, Pacquiao has hurt his sparring mate Gary Young during Tuesday’s four-round session.
“Si Gary Young ay medyo nasaktan dahil na rin sa mga malalakas na suntok na aking binitawan at naduguan ng kaunti ang ilong ng aking ka-spar,” said Pacquiao. (Gary Young was slightly hurt because of my strong blows. His nose bled.)
Before Young, the General Santos native knocked down Art Hovhannesyan in an earlier sparring session.
Pacquiao said it is important that he prepare himself against any possible fighting style that Hatton might bring inside the ring on May 2.
“Ang ilan sa aking mga sparring partners ay may kanya-kanyang katangian upang gayahin ang style ni Hatton,” said the hard-hitting lefty. (My sparring partners has styles similar to Hatton’s.)
Pacquiao has admitted that he will be having a tough fight in Hatton, who remained unbeaten in 140 pounds.
The Filipino’s coach Freddie Roach vowed that his ward will knock out the Manchester native in Round 3.
“It will be short and sweet,” said Pacquiao’s trainer.
Hatton’s coach Floyd Mayweather Sr., however, said Pacquiao will get a shocker from the Brit.
“Hatton is going to stop Pacquiao before 3. We're going to put hands on him man; trust me," Mayweather said.
